Hey, I'm Mila
I'm the designer behind Mijosurf – and above all: a passionate artist, wingfoil fanatic, plant lover, cat cuddler, fitness enthusiast, smoothie bowl pro, and almost always with paint on my fingers. Art is my everyday life, my escape, my expression – and has been for as long as I can remember. Only, that expression used to be a bit... wilder. I actually took my first creative steps with graffiti – my artist name back then was Spuh (yes, really – just don't ask 😄). Today my style is a bit cleaner, but that energy from back then has stayed with me.
What do I love about my job? Everything. I'm a freelance digital artist – and for as long as I can remember, that's always been clear to me deep down. I work every day with my iPad, accompanied by good music, lots of tea (or coffee, depending on how I feel), and usually my cat, who pointedly lies down right on my keyboard when things get serious.
Sketching? I rarely do that. When an idea grabs me, I start right away. I think while drawing, I feel while drawing – it's like a kind of meditation for me. And quite honestly, I often have to remind myself to get up and do it. Drawing is addictive – in a good way.
When I'm not drawing, you'll almost certainly find me exercising – at the gym, on the yoga mat, or doing Pilates. I love moving. It recharges me, clears my head, and keeps me balanced – which is incredibly important when you're immersed in a creative tunnel vision for hours on end (believe me, that happens more often than I'd like).
And then there's my one true love: wing foiling. Anyone who's ever experienced it knows what I'm talking about. That feeling of gliding across the water, the wind in your hand, the rushing sound, the tingling sensation – that's real life for me. We're lucky enough to live just 30 minutes from our home spot in Ool near Roermond. Wing foiling pushes me to my limits – but that's exactly what I love. Sometimes I fly across the water, sometimes I fall in. And both feel good somehow.
Together with Joscha, I live in a quiet village surrounded by forests, lakes, a wild garden, and—most importantly—our little cat. Here I find peace. Inspiration. Pure nature. And that's exactly what flows into my art—sometimes visibly, sometimes between the lines.
